Maroubra Beach has a long history of producing hardcore surfers in a rough and tough environment. Marty Lee was typical of the kind of suburban surf nazi that came out of that area. Run-ins with the law were common and one story that did the rounds was how Marty escaped the hands of the police by dressing in drag. An outcast, you bet.
